Abstract
Extensive research efforts have been devoted to sports video analysis and applications due to their wide viewer-ship and high commercial potentials. Various approaches and prototypes have been developed to automatically or semi-automatically analyze sports video content, extract semantic events or highlights, intelligently adapt, enhance and personalize the content to meet users’preferences and network/device capabilities. Many applications have been developed and used in broadcast sports video enhancement. In this talk, I will focus on our research and the technical achievements of sports video analysis and applications in recent years. Firstly I will introduce feature extraction methods in sports video, particularly focusing on some novel mid-level/semantic features we have developed for sports video analysis. Then I will introduce event detection approaches in
sports video and highlight a semantic event detection method by combining the analysis and alignment of web-casting text and broadcast sports video. Finally, I will introduce two applications of sports video analysis: sports video tactic analysis and personalized music sports video generation. Based on the current technologies used in sports video analysis and the demands from real-world application, future promising directions and research challenges will be discussed at the end of the talk.
